Somebody call security!

Written April 25, 2007 10:53 pm by Chad Kraus

I have been having a good time writing this website. I wrote the entire blogging system and I’m kind of proud of it. I am learning as I go because new issues keep coming up. This week the big issue was spammers posting comments to my articles.

My readers don’t want links to pictures of Paris Hilton or ads for Viagra. And I don’t want to have to monitor all the comments on my site, and delete spam comments everyday. So I have found a wonderful and simple solution that I thought I would share.

I went to this website. They have provided a free PHP script to include Captcha security images to web forms. These are those funky images where you have to type the letters or numbers you see into a field, to prove that you are a living, breathing, thinking human being, rather than a slimy, no good spam bot.

So if you are a web developer looking to add some security to a form, take a look at this script. I had it working with this site in less than 10 minutes, so major props to these guys for providing such a great script!

So, you think you are smarter than my spambots, do you? I’ll show you… Doh, stupid image code thingies.

A few years back one of my best buddies and I got different cars around the same time. Aaron bought a new, fully-loaded Mazda 6, and I got a 2002 Chevy Impala LS. Aaron is a car guy. There is no other way to describe it. He loves cars. Swoons over cars. He keeps his car very clean.

I on the other hand was never much of a car guy. As long as I had a vehicle to get me from point A to point B, I was a happy camper. Didn’t need to be spendy or high class, or even clean for that matter.

Well, all this has changed with the acquisition of a new car. Amanda and I have been blessed with a new 2007 Mazda 3. Now I’m out in my driveway washing and detailing the car on weekends. And it’s not just the new car. I have started paying attention to our other car, a 1999 Toyota Camry which we purchased not too long ago from Amanda’s parents. I spent last Saturday washing and waxing it, detailing it inside and out.

I’m not sure why a new car has the power to change a guy’s entire philosophy on his cars. Maybe it’s just that I’ve never owned a new car before. But why would that have me washing and waxing the old one? Oh and there’s more. I took the Camry to the store after I washed it and it rained. When I got it back in the garage you know what I did? I toweled it off! Amanda stuck her head in the garage when I was doing that and gave me a puzzled look. I didn’t know what to say other than, “It got wet from the rain.” Hmmmm…

Nice looking car. Maybe some day our Mazda’s will meet. Mazda6 + Mazda3 = Mazda9 :P

To the Moon Alice!

Honeymoon that is! What a great trip Amanda and I had! We went on a 6-day Carnival cruise that stopped at Freeport Bahamas, Grand Cayman, and Costa Maya Mexico. We took a Jeep off-road in the Bahamas, held some sea turtles in Grand Cayman, and had the best beach break ever in Mexico. And don’t forget about the food, because I never will. WOW. The food on a cruise is amazing! Filet minon, prime rib, New York strip, lobster tail, grouper, my oh my!

The entire 2 weeks, starting with the weekend before the wedding when Aaron showed up in Florida, and all the way to the end of the honeymoon was probably the best 2 weeks of my life up to that point. With all the fun and family, I don’t know how life gets much better than that. But one of my clients said it best, “Every new day is the best day of your life with your new wife. Just always remember the reasons you fell in love with each other in the first place, and keep God as the center of your lives.” I think he’s right!

I also have to say it is all such a blur and it went so fast! Wow, I can’t believe it’s already over. John and his wife said that about their wedding too, and they were right.

Thanks again to everyone for such a wonderful wedding! Whether you helped with the wedding, were in the wedding, attended it, or sent a card saying you’d be there in spirit, thanks to you all. You made our wedding very special! Amanda and I will be working on thank you’s this next week, so “talk” to you all soon!

Who misses Florida already?
